The principles of rehabilitation

Aim: to allow the injured client to regain full fitness and function in the SHORTEST and SAFEST possible time.
To do this we must assist nature in the rehabilitation process by being guided by the signs and symptoms that present themselves to us. To do this we choose modes of treatment that are best suited to achieve our aims within a specific time frame of the injury occurring.

The key to rehabilitation is to follow sound progression of exercise and activities that are applicable and commensurate to the individual’s needs whether it be a weight lifter or a cab driver, an office worker or a mum at home with the kids, each and everyone has a specific functional need.

Injuries

Injuries come in two categories: overuse and overload both speak for themselves really yet they can be from both an internal and external influence (intrinsic and extrinsic), for example, pulled muscles and a ruptured tendon is intrinsic, and hitting your hand with a hammer in extrinsic

Injury, inflammation signs and symptoms

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Heat
  • Discoloration
  • Loss of function

Inflammation, body response to tissue injury caused by:-

  • Pressure
  • Friction
